i know i’ve been sorely neglecting this site, but life sometimes has a way of interfering with things.
in any case, i’ll try to post more updates, but really? a-ray’s not making the news much now that the IG tour is over. but i do hear that she’s opening for more brandi carlile shows in februaryas well as a solo acoustic benefit show in december.
i’m a huge crossword puzzle fan and today i was pleasantly surprised to find this in the last puzzle of the book i’ve been working on…
it might be a stretch, but i

i cannot, in good faith, embed the ‘least complicated‘ video here when this is *supposed* to be about amy. and i should say that this little snippet is crap, but i’m posting all a-ray content i find, good and bad.

7. Amy Ray (Indigo Girls) You didn’t think I could slip this list past you with no Indigo Girls, did you? While their folk sounds aren’t exactly my cup of tea, they definitely have kept up a very impressive mainstream career all of these years,

McKenzie: I was wondering about your personal spirituality and how it relates to your life, your music and your social activism.
Emily: My dad’s a Methodist Minister and a professor of theology so I grew up going to Church with my family, and being around the sacred language from the Western Christian tradition… So in my music, Biblical references come naturally…and the language of the Bible is so rich in and of itself; great stories and interesting characters. But beyond that,

Almost exactly ten years ago, I had just moved to Georgia, and I was sitting in Javamonkey cafe in Decatur, writing my PhD dissertation, and noticed that Amy Ray of the famous indie-folk group Indigo Girls had just walked in. She was obviously recognized by many of the locals, but was left alone. A few days earlier, I had been working at home and saw out the window a woman across the street hauling guitars to a small storage trailer hitched to a van. I soon

Aw, snap. It’s time for a leisurely stroll down memory lane with Flashion Backward. Let’s wander through UI’s archives and see what ancient creaking box of treats lies in wait for our greedy pawing pleasure. Today we’re chatting with Amy Ray, a woman for whom self-expression and tellin’ it like it is is more than a way of life–it is her life.
As 50 percent of the now-legendary folk-singing, guitar-strumming, artsy, vaguely fartsy Indigo Girls, Amy Ray has always managed to distinguish herself through albums (which

note: we’ll just pretend the author and subsequent commenters did not combine a-ray and the phrase ‘looks like ass’ in the same sentence…needless to say, an interesting post.
So I made Petunia watch the Indigo Girls DVD with me last night. Right off, she belittled me for calling it a CD, then made fun of me for saying “DVD” like an old lady. At least I didn’t call it a tape, which is what I started to write at the beginning of this post. And at least I didn’t

I’m sure I’ve mentioned the enormous girl crush I have on Amy Ray before. Well last night, I went to see her perform a solo show at a small DC venue, the Black Cat. I parked my butt right against the stage bright and early. And what an awesome experience it was! She giggled, she broke a guitar string (WANTED IT!!), let some woman propose to her girlfriend on stage, and was generally the fantastically talented, wonderful person she is. Even though I got home so late that I

One half of the Indigo Girls made her way to Dallas this week over at House of Blues. Amy Ray ventures away from usual folky fare to a more rockin’ edge and we’ve heard her show was definitely on the slammin’ side. Here’s a snippet of it thanks to YouTube poster teejay9798.

For my birthday, I got myself + the Robster tickets to see Amy Ray @ the Mercury Lounge in NYC. The woman is truly amazing… an incredible force of talent, intellect, and heart. The night was one of the best concerts of my life. Not a bad way to start a new year!
